The 2025 Cumbres de Colombia Specialty Coffee Auction, hosted by Café Granja La Esperanza (CGLE) on the V-Auction platform, has made history by setting a new national record for the highest price ever paid for a Colombian coffee.
The lot “Mavicure Hills – Laurina Natural” sold for an unprecedented $2,194.1/kg, for a total of $13,137.30, making it the most expensive coffee ever auctioned from Colombia. The exclusive 13.2 lb vacuum-sealed lot achieved an outstanding cup score of 94.25, celebrated for its vibrant sensory profile featuring rosehip, banana, green apple and blackberry jam.
Purchased by Brew92 in Saudi Arabia, this sale not only highlights the growing global appreciation for Colombian micro-lots but also represents a historic moment for the international coffee industry.
Unlike many record-setting coffees of recent years – typically Panamanian Geishas – this milestone was achieved with the Laurina variety, a rare and delicate cultivar that demonstrates Colombia’s capacity to rival and redefine the top tier of global specialty coffee.
“This achievement is the reflection of years of dedication from every hand involved – from the pickers in the fields to our fermentation specialists and cupping lab,” said Rigoberto Herrera, director of Café Granja La Esperanza. “Each lot tells a story of passion, discipline and love for coffee that has been growing within our family since 1945.”
The fifth edition of the Cumbres de Colombia auction featured 25 exceptional micro-lots, each representing the richness and diversity of Colombia’s coffee-growing ecosystems, particularly in the high mountains of Valle del Cauca. Every bean is cultivated under ideal climatic conditions, handpicked at peak ripeness and processed using innovative fermentation and drying techniques that define Café Granja La Esperanza’s world-class reputation.
Held on 22 October 2025, the auction attracted global participation from elite roasters and buyers seeking the rarest and most distinctive coffees. The Mavicure Hills Laurina lot, grown in Trujillo, Valle del Cauca, captivated bidders with its extraordinary balance, clarity and character – setting a new benchmark for Colombian specialty coffee.
