Greenstreet Coffee selects Finca Santa Teresa as its holiday bean

Chris Molieri, head of small batch Greenstreet Coffee Roastery, (tucked away on Alter Street in South Philadelphia), has selected Nicaraguan Finca Santa Teresa as the roastery’s featured holiday bean this year.

Molieri said: ”With its subtle finish reminiscent of ripe raspberry, orange and candied raisin, Greenstreet’s Finca Santa Teresa, a single origin light roast bourbon bean coffee, is the perfect complement to Christmas morning pancakes and French toast, as well as after a big turkey dinner.”

Molieri selected Santa Teresa after visiting the coffee farm, tasting the bean and meeting the farmer, Jorge Luis Lagos Calix and his family. Jorge’s farm is located a four hour drive from capital city Managua in Nicaragua’s highest elevation region called Jinotega. Molieri noted: “during the holidays, it’s a good feeling to know that we’re helping Jorge and his family and employees in Nicaragua – truly wonderful people deserving our support.”

Now, as a special offer on orders of three bags or more placed at one time through 24 December, Greenstreet will give online customers free shipping, and in-roastery customers a bonus freshly brewed cup of coffee to enjoy. MSRP is for the Nicaraguan Finca Santa Teresa is USD $15.99 for a 12oz bag. It is also available in an 80oz bulk bag for cafés, restaurants, hotels, etc, for $69.99 retail.

Greenstreet is unique among coffee roasters in that it is committed to freshness. Molieri believes that time, even a short time, reduces coffee quality by oxidising the beans. Studies have shown that oxidation flattens the nuanced flavour of coffee, even causing bitterness. Greenstreet’s coffee is hand-roasted in 30-pound batches and sold within a few days.

To achieve his freshness and quality goals, Molieri believes his commitment to small batch craft roasting enables Greenstreet to have complete oversight and control of the roasting process. Every bean put into a bag is closely monitored throughout the entire process. Molieri states: “There is no computer automation here. Our final step is where every batch is tasted for perfection. This personal attention to every batch is what sets Greenstreet apart as as craft roasters.”

Greenstreet’s other coffees range from $12.99-$16.99, with a special Colombian bean available in 6oz, roasted-to-order bags for $21.99.
