Coffee Project NY’s IWD release spotlights women producers

In honour of International Women’s Day, Coffee Project NY is spotlighting a limited release from Colombia: the Deyanira Ortíz Black Phoenix Gesha – a tea-like coffee grown by a standout woman producer in Tolima.
Produced by Deyanira Ortíz at her farm El Topacio in Planadas, this Gesha offers notes of raspberry jam, orange marmalade and a white tea finish, with acidity and a silky body.
Deyanira is a leader in the Black Condor Project, an initiative rebuilding coffee infrastructure in the Gaitana region after years of violent conflict. Her Gesha stood out so strongly at auction that Coffee Project NY voluntarily paid above the winning bid – ensuring additional income went directly back to Deyanira’s family to reinvest in future harvests.
The release coincides with Coffee Project NY’s annual Women Coffee Roasters Scholarship, held in Colombia this year, which supports emerging female-identifying professionals through hands-on roasting education and industry access.
The Deyanira Ortíz Black Phoenix Gesha ($45 for 10 oz) launches Friday 6 March via coffeeprojectny.com.
