For the first time in over 40 years Starbucks now offers customers a second choice in espresso. Starbucks Canada has introduced Blonde Espresso Roast, a lighter roasted blend that has a balanced and sweet flavour profile, and a smooth, creamy mouthfeel that is differentiated from Starbucks Signature Espresso Roast.
Starbucks Signature Espresso Roast was created in 1975 and has been the core blend in the company’s espresso beverages ever since. The Starbucks Espresso Roast is a special blend, honed to shine through steamed milk with rich, roasty and caramelly flavours.
Starbucks Coffee specialist Anthony Carroll was part of the team that created the new espresso, a blend of Latin American and African coffee beans roasted to bring out the lighter side of espresso. “With our signature Starbucks Espresso, the caramelly roast comes through in the beverage while Blonde Espresso is a sweeter, gentler flavor,” Carroll said. “It’s a great way to invite new espresso drinkers to try our beverages, while also offering our seasoned coffee drinkers a way to experience our beverages in a new way.”
The Latte Americano or in Café Americano are perfect hot choices for the new Blonde Espresso Roast, but the Blonde Espresso was created to also work well in iced espresso beverages, such as an iced Americano or Double Shot, creating smooth, balanced drinks.
Beginning 15 February, customers in participating Starbucks stores in Canada can request Blonde Espresso with any handcrafted espresso beverage, including Blonde Vanilla Latte, Blonde Latte Macchiato or Iced Blonde Almondmilk Vanilla Latte.
Unlike seasonal or promotional offers, Blonde Espresso will be a core offering, and with the introduction of this new product, Starbucks expects to double the size of their beverage business within five years.
