La Prima Espresso Company expands with new location in Oakland
La Prima Espresso Company has announced the opening of its fifth caffè location at 3400 Fifth Avenue in Oakland. Neighbouring the iconic Sciulli’s Pizza, the new caffè will open its doors on 12 May, 2025, inviting both locals and visitors to experience the authentic Italian coffee culture that La Prima has aimed to bring to Pittsburgh since 1988.
Founded by Sam Patti, La Prima Espresso Company began as a showroom selling and servicing commercial espresso machines in the Strip District, Pittsburgh’s historic market and restaurant district. The showroom quickly evolved into a full-service espresso bar. Today, La Prima is popular for its coffee as well as its commitment to superior customer service – principles that have fostered a loyal customer base.
“We’re excited to announce the return of La Prima Espresso Company to the vibrant Oakland community, where we once proudly served our coffee in the ’90s,” said Sam. “This new location will serve as a gathering place for students, professionals, and residents alike, providing a cozy atmosphere to enjoy our coffee and connect with one another.”
The new caffè will join existing La Prima locations at 21st Street in the Strip District, 1100 Smallman Street near the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, and at Carnegie Mellon University in Wean Hall and the Gates Hillman Center. Each location offers a unique experience while maintaining the high standards of quality and service that La Prima is known for.
