The Oceana Coffee competed in the Golden Bean World Competition, the world’s largest roasting contest, held in Antigua, Guatemala. This event brought together top roasters from across the globe to showcase their skills and celebrate the craft of coffee roasting.

Since 2015, Oceana Coffee has participated in the Golden Bean North America competition, with co-founder Scott Angelo winning Overall Best Roaster in 2016. To qualify for the World Competition, roasters must win a medal in a regional event. This year, we joined top roasters from around the world to compete at the highest level.

Over two days, more than 200 coffees were judged on flavour, body, sweetness, and acidity. Scott, Amy Angelo and Amy Duell from Oceana Coffee were among 50 judges, with support from Scott and Amy’s children, Jordan and Grace, behind the scenes. The competition’s fierce nature, where each roaster can only enter one coffee per category, demonstrates the level of skill required to succeed on the world stage.

The company has announced that Oceana Coffee earned a silver medal in the Milk-Based Espresso category, showing Scott Angelo’s dedication to the craft of roasting. The silver medal-winning blend will be available for a limited time on our website.
