Colombia Named Official Portrait Country at World of Coffee 2018

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has announced Colombia as this year’s official Portrait Country at World of Coffee Amsterdam (WOC). Taking place this year at RAI Amsterdam from 21-23 June, WOC is Europe’s largest coffee trade show featuring the latest innovations and attracting thousands of professionals every year.

Each year, the SCA partners with a coffee producing country to highlight the work of its farmers and the unique characteristics of their coffees. This year, the SCA welcomes Colombia, represented by the brand Café de Colombia, as the official Portrait Country. Café de Colombia is the brand representing the work, care, and passion of Colombian coffee growing families. Café de Colombia’s participation at WOC is a testament of the country’s impact on the specialty industry, which has seen the launch of several Colombian single original coffee editions in 2018, and a recognition of the quality, diversity, and sustainability of Colombian coffee. Colombia’s washed Arabica coffee is grown throughout its three mountain ranges, the Eastern, Central, and Western Andes, as well as in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. These factors as well as the rich and variant climate, topography, soil, and culture allow for a unique array of diverse, unique, and fresh coffees available all year round.

Café de Colombia has developed a special program for this year’s event, highlighting the country’s diverse offering of coffees. Visitors can sample Colombian coffee at booth D24 – C29, attend cupping sessions of specialty selected, and participate in sustainability panels including the PPP Intelligent Water Management, recipient of the 2018 SCA Sustainability Award in the Project category. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet three authentic Colombian coffee growers, and the country´s most iconic and internationally recognized coffee grower Juan Valdez.

Juan Valdez, the iconic representative of Colombia’s coffee farmers, said, “To understand why Colombian coffee is among the best in the world, you must know that the lives of more than 550,000 families are all about coffee. For us, coffee is not only our work — coffee is our culture. To be able to show and taste the diversity of our coffee on a platform such as World of Coffee in Amsterdam is a privilege and an honour for me. I am looking forward to meeting everyone there.”
