Bristol Twenty Coffee Releases Blend in Memory of Its Founder
Bristol Twenty Coffee, a family-owned and operated business based in Bristol, England, has created a new blend called ‘21TEN – Roy Ireland Memorial Blend’ in memory of the company’s founder who passed away in 2017 following his third bout of cancer. A portion of proceeds from each pack sold will be donated to local hospitals’ charity Above & Beyond helping to support Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) where Roy Ireland received his care. The memorial blend will be available online and in businesses across Bristol beginning in February.
Roy Ireland worked in the coffee industry for more than 20 years, from being an espresso machine engineer to starting what would grow to be Bristol Twenty Coffee. “He was well-known and respected in the industry and will be sorely missed,” says Rory Ireland, son of Roy and director of Bristol Twenty Coffee. “As a tribute to him we are launching a memorial blend roasted by us in Bristol. One pound from each bag sold is being donated to Above & Beyond, the charity for Bristol city centre hospitals, where dad received outstanding care each time he was ill and especially the last.”
Catherine Harris, corporate partnerships fundraising officer for Above & Beyond, says, “Partnerships with local businesses are essential in enabling us to fund key projects that go beyond what the NHS is able to provide. We are incredibly grateful to the team at Bristol Twenty Coffee for their commitment to helping to improve treatment for hundreds of patients at the BRI.”
“Above & Beyond is a great charity that really requires new support,” adds Ireland. “As Bristol becomes a younger and younger city, no one considers the need to help our hospitals until it is unfortunately too late. We’re hoping that by teaming up with them, being part of a younger industry in the city, will highlight its importance to this younger demographic and also provide much needed funds along the way.”
Founded in 1974, Above & Beyond is the local charity fundraising for all nine city centre hospitals, many of which are specialist centres for the South West, England region. Each year Above & Beyond raises £3 million to improve patient care and the hospital experience, with a focus on creating welcoming environments, staff training and providing the latest equipment and funding innovative research.
