Taiyo to Present Tea Extracts for Functional Use in Beverages at Drinktec 2017

At drinktec 2017 Taiyo will present versatile tea extracts with a range of health benefits under its Sunphenon banner. Sunphenon extracts have a high polyphenol and catechin content and antioxidant effects, and are available in powder form. In water, the functional ingredient dissolves completely, offering numerous application possibilities.
Sunphenon tea extracts are exclusively made from green tea leaves. Due to their high content of secondary plant compounds, they are credited with many positive properties, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, odor-suppressing and thermogenic effects. The water-soluble extracts serve as functional ingredients in beauty, energy, wellness and sports drinks.
In their powder format, they are also ideal for use in instant beverages. As such, Taiyo will display Sunphenon instant teas, which are based on the raw extracts. In addition to green tea leaves, rosehip fruits and leaves from the mulberry tree or the Pu-erh or Qingmao tea bush (a subspecies of camellia sinensis) are used for their production. Available in natural and flavoured options, they are highly soluble in cold water, allowing for quick preparation at any time, and are also perfect for iced tea.
“When selecting their foods and beverages today, increasing numbers of consumers are pursuing the goal of doing something good for their bodies. This means that, in addition to the taste of a product, its health benefits are a deciding factor,” says Dr. Stefan Siebrecht, managing director of Taiyo GmbH, Schwelm, Germany.
Drinktec visitors will also be able to see Taiyo’s combination of tea extracts with bean extract – Sunfiber. This blend reduces the bitterness of tea, softening it for the palate and making it more drinkable. At the same time, the bean extract acts as a dietary fiber with beneficial effects for digestive and intestinal health.
In addition, Taiyo will be offering attendees the opportunity to taste “alternative” energy drinks based on matcha and green tea with coenzyme Q10.
