S&D and Cosa partner to increase sustainable sourcing impact

S&D Coffee & Tea and the Committee on Sustainability Assessment (Cosa) have joined forces to broaden S&D’s sustainable sourcing program.

The innovative work builds on earlier collaboration between the two organizations to design a S.M.A.R.T information architecture to better assess and increase the impact of sustainability sourcing programs on farmers and their communities. This approach supports farmers, guiding their agricultural practices to effectively mitigate climate change and sustainably increase farmer productivity and income.

“We aim to create the leading sourcing program among coffee companies in North America,” said Ron Hinson, president and CEO of S&D, Concord, N.C. “We are especially pleased to partner with COSA. Their knowledge management systems will ensure that S&D’s sustainability efforts have maximum impact while growing supplier and stakeholder value.”

Cosa president Daniele Giovannucci said, “We enjoy working with innovators like S&D and are moving quickly toward optimized approaches to sustainability key performance indicators that are fully aligned with international norms. We look forward to helping take their strategic supply chain efforts to the next level.”

The new initiative will fully integrate existing systems with risk management and impact assessment metrics across S&D coffee supply chains and will enhance the reliability and scope of the current sourcing platform.
