Shearwater Organic Coffee Roasters Opens Coffee Bar

Shearwater Organic Coffee Roasters has opened its first café in Fairfield, Connecticut. The 1200-square foot space is located within the Brick Walk business and retail section of downtown Fairfield (1215 Post Road).

Founded by Ed Freedman, Shearwater Organic Coffee Roasters was named one of the15 Best New Coffee Roasters in America” by the digital lifestyle magazine Thrillist.com.

The new retail space includes a Faema E71 espresso machine and a coffee bar section dedicated to a retail selection of pour-over equipment, grinders, and French presses from brands like: Hario, Chemex, Baratza and Espro. Shearwater also offers USDA Certified Organic and Fair-Trade coffee beans that can be purchased by the pound.

“We take our coffee very seriously,” says Freedman, “and now we’re infusing it with a fun and social atmosphere. It’s been a dream of mine to open a coffee bar and Fairfield is a great town to have my dream come to fruition.”

One highlight is both Shearwater Running Rapids Cold Brew and Nitro Coffee on tap from a dedicated kegerator.

Shearwater Coffee Bar also offers savoury and sweet pastries from Huckleberries Artisan Pastries including: flourless fudge brownies; seasonal shortcakes and turnovers; organic first cut buttermilk biscuits; and fresh muffin cakes such as local carrot-ginger and cream crumble cake. Gluten-free options from The Bee and the Baker include: carrot apple raisin muffins; zucchini bread; peanut oat chocolate chunk cookies; and paleo granola. A selection of artisan teas from Leaf & Ardor and Belgium chocolates from BE Chocolat also appear on the menu.
