Groundwork Coffee opens café in newly restored North Hollywood historic train depot

Groundwork Coffee Co., Los Angeles’ largest organic coffee roaster, has opened a new café in the newly restored North Hollywood (California) historic train depot in the neighborhood’s thriving Arts District.

The new Groundwork café is built into the North Hollywood historic train depot as part of the restoration of this registered state historic landmark building. The café’s concept and design are a return to the form and function of yesteryear. Reclaimed wood, repurposed light fixtures, marble, brass, and other natural elements are used to help bring the depot back to life. A window that once provided access to a ticket booth will now allow commuters to grab coffee and baked goods on the go. A room where commuters used to wait for a train will now be part of the indoor/outdoor seating area for dining.

Café service includes brewed coffee – roasted only three blocks away at Groundwork’s North Hollywood roastery – and espresso drinks prepared by skilled baristas. The café also offers Groundwork’s full made-to-order food menu, prepared fresh in the on-site kitchen. They also offer an array of house-made baked goods prepared daily at Groundwork’s Venice Beach bakery.

Built in the early 1890s, the North Hollywood Train Depot is located at the intersection of the Red Line and Orange Bus Line — two of the city’s most-traveled public transportation routes. It was the historic hub of the North Hollywood neighborhood for more than 100 years. Groundwork Coffee Co. at the North Hollywood historic train depot is located at 11275 Chandler Blvd., North Hollywood, Calif.
