8th Annual North American Tea Conference Heads West

Under the theme, “ThirsTea in the Desert,” the 8th annual North American Tea Conference will be held 12-14 September in Scottsdale, Arizona at the Omni Resort & Spa-Montelucia.

Specialty Tea Institute (STI) certification classes, Level 1 and 2, will take place prior to the conference, 11-12 September, also at the Omni Resort. The Pesticide Summit, which is by invitation only, will also be held on 11 September.

Speakers for this year’s conference include Ian Gibbs of the International Tea Committee, Laura Donnelly of the Rainforest Alliance, Katharine Burnett of the Global Tea Initiative for the Study of Tea Culture and Science – UC Davis, and Gary Hemphill of Beverage Marketing Corporation.

The NATC Gold Medal Tea Competition will be held on 13 September. The annual competition judges teas from the same origin against each other. Teas are judged by origin regardless of production type or grade. The number of origins open for entrants is limitless and is decided solely by the submitter’s producer.

The Tea Association of the USA and Canada are also holding the second annual Sustainability Awards for the tea sector during the conference. These awards recognize the hard work and operational execution being put forth globally throughout the tea industry and embed sustainability in the entire tea supply chain. Holistic efforts of companies, not only specific projects, are recognised. The purpose of these awards is to feature the best practices currently being employed within the tea industry.
