U.S. Barista Delegation Goes to Peru

A Barista Delegation representing the West, East and Middle states of the U.S. is visiting coffee farms in Peru’s Chacamaya growing region and teaching barista courses at Le Cordon Bleu in Lima.

Sherri Johns, president of WholeCup Coffee Consulting and Barista Delegation coordinator stated, “This was a first time for some barista delegation members to meet coffee farmers and visit origin.” Following farm tours, Johns presented a program on specialty coffee and baristi in the U.S. to American Chamber of Commerce members, with participation of the barista delegates.

Ryan Dennhardt of Baristas Daily Grind, Nebraska, a barista delegate stated, “It was fantastic to be in Peru and see the coffee harvest. Meeting coffee farmers helped me realize how important every step of coffee production is. I have a responsibility to make every cup count knowing my hands are the last set to touch coffee before a customer enjoys a delicious drink.”

“Teaching at Le Cordon Bleu was an incredible experience and an honor. On so many levels, this was an amazing journey, just what coffee is all about,” says Johns. WholeCup Coffee Consulting collaborated with the American Chamber of Commerce in Peru, the U.S. Embassy and The Coffee Association of Peru to create the delegation program. The mission was to exchange information, build relationships and provide ideas to access the market between Peru and the U.S. “Coffee transcends boundaries. I wanted to prepare a program to inspire and build relationships with mutual admiration across the miles,” states Johns.
