Cimbria Kaack Launches New Machinery

Since the recent launch of Cimbria Kaack’s BSL Coffee Refining and Polishing Machine, Neumann Gruppe, Paccorini and Coffein are already using the machinery. The BSL cleans coffee from dust and residue and is able to polish coffee with water or wax. The BSL is freely programmable, works 24 hours with low maintenance cost and no operator is required, says the company. The BSL is a 600kg-batch machine and reaches a capacity of 1.8 tons per hour.

The BSL is primarily used for Robusta coffees, and those of similar dry-processed origins, in order to obtain a more uniform, clean and fresh appearance, owing to the deeper, natural color shading. In addition, the earthy and musty odor of some medium or inferior coffee qualities can be considerably reduced or even eliminated altogether by this treatment; due to this, the cup taste improves markedly, states Cimbria Kaack. The machine is also suitable for Arabicas with an excess of silver skin, or for those which have experienced poor treatment or damage during transportation.

Hearthware Introduces i-Roast 2

Hearthware Home Products Inc. has launched the new i-Roast 2 coffee roaster. This fourth generation coffee roaster helps to capture the growing trend of home roasting. The i-Roast 2, which has a capacity to roast enough beans for 24 cups of coffee, offers programming options for both time and temperature in up to five roasting stages, allowing users to customize the roast to their own preferences. Hearthware is also the first to offer a smoke vent attachment to help with ventilation during the roasting process. By attaching a 4-inch dryer hose, which can be purchased at any home improvement store, the smoke can be directed out a window.

To make the process consistent each time, the machine’s memory function can store up to 10 roast preferences, or one of two pre-programmed settings can be selected. The glass roasting chamber allows users to monitor every stage of the roasting process, enabling them to experiment and find their favorite roast. As a further visual check, the LCD display shows time, temperature stages and other important information for accurate monitoring of the roasting process.

A double filtration chaff collection disassembles for easy cleaning. The i-Roast 2 has a suggested retail price of $199 and is available for immediate shipment.

Hayssen Introduces New Zipper Packaging System

Hayssen Packaging Technologies, a form/fill/seal technology and services provider, has launched a vertical system that is the first of its kind in operation in the industry. The Ultima SV Quad-Seal Integrated Slider Zipper Packaging System provides a powerful way to protect product quality, improve brand recognition and enhance consumer convenience, says the company.

The Quad-Seal packaging system produces a flat bottom style bag with four corner “quad” seals. The stand-up pouch makes for a highly visible product on store shelves, while the integrated TD Slider offers the latest in value-added, recloseable convenience.

The machine offers flexibility and ease of changeover for creating a variety of package styles. It also is a lower profile machine to fit in existing packaging line configuration and it provides more dwell time for better looking seals and increased packaging speeds.

Hayssen’s Quad-Seal packaging system is available on the Ultima SV.

It will produce a Quad-Seal package or standard flat bottom bag, with or without a recloseable zipper (press-to-close or slider zipper), as well as standard pillow pouch packages.

RoastMaxtor Perfector Enters the Market

Roasters Inc., Pte. Ltd. has spent much of the last two years developing what they consider to be “a perfect roaster.” The RoastMaxtor Perfector offers profile roasting capabilities and full process control, built with first grade materials. The operator is able to adjust the temperatures during a roasting cycle up or down. Timing can be changed at any time as well and because this machine is a fluid bed roaster, the temperature adjustments are instantly achieved. The roaster’s max batch size is 500g or respectively 1000g; the batch capacity is 4-5 respectively 8-10KG per hour.

The RoastMaxtor Perfector is steel, undercoated and sprayed and available in several different colors. It features a Swiss-made ceramic heating element and a German-made side channel blower. The unit measures 550 mm x 550 mm x 1100 mm (L x W x H) and weighs 125kg.

Witt offers Fail-Proof Test for Airtight Packaging

When products require airtight packaging, there is always a need to test the packaging for leaks. hence, Witt has now begun offering its new Pack-Vac.

The system can be used for the non-destructive testing of nearly all food, pharmaceutical, industrial and consumer packages. Pack-Vac does not require trace gas or even electricity. The only thing required is compressed air. To detect leaks, the package is placed into a testing-chamber filled with water. The headspace above the water level is evacuated using a venturi vacuum driven by compressed air. Due to the vacuum, the package immersed in water inflates. If there is a leak, air or inert gas is identified by a stream of bubbles.

This solid technology provides a number of advantages, a major factor being cost. The operating costs of this testing facility are low because water and air are used instead of expensive helium, says the company. Moreover, the Pack-Vac does not need extensive maintenance or calibration before start-up. The testing period is very short and no specially skilled personnel are required due to the simple, intuitive handling. The Pack-Vac is available in six versions with chambers ranging from 11 up to 272 liters.

New Zenobia Produces “Air-Free” Block Bottom Bags

Teepack Spezialmaschinen GmbH & Co., a teabag machinery manufacturer, has recently showcased a new precision packaging machine: the vertical form, fill and seal machine Zenobia with optional “Air-Free” technology. This new concept makes it possible to choose between continuous or intermittent operation on one machine, depending on the nature of the product and the particular application. What makes Zenobia special is that, for the first time, “Air-Free” block bottom bags with minimal air content can be produced in continuous operation as well. In addition to block bags, both conventional pillow bags as well as stand up bags can be produced. The change of format is very easy due to the user-friendliness of the machine.

The Zenobia features a modern and servo-drive technology with integrated control, which ensures optimised motion sequences. For the best possible utilization of its capacity, the complete production cycle of the machine is calculated for the maximum output to be achieved, after inputting the thickness and the length of the bags as well as the fusion time. For each format, the optimal parameters and configurations are computed and saved, so that they can easily be retrieved again.

Manual Dumping Station from Flexicon

Flexicon Corp. has made available a new Manual Dumping Station with an integral screw conveyor that collects dust created during manual dumping of powder and bulk solid materials from bags, boxes, drums and other containers.

The unit features a high velocity vacuum fan that draws airborne dust from the operator’s atmosphere onto two cartridge filters. Automatic reverse-pulse filter cleaning allows continuous, efficient operation; timer activated solenoid valves release short blasts of compressed plant air inside cartridge filters, causing dust build-up on the outer filter surfaces to fall into the hopper.

According to David Boger, sales manager, the manual dumping station is intended to reduce material waste and eliminate the need to clean a remote dust collection site, while protecting workers and preventing plant contamination.

The company also manufactures pneumatic conveying systems, bulk bag unloaders, bulk bag fillers, drum dumpers, weigh batching and blending systems, and engineered plant-wide bulk handling systems with automated controls.
