Sonoco’s New Plant
Sonoco will be manufacturing multi-layer HDPE co-extrusion blow-molded bottles at a new facility in Corona, California.
The high barrier plastic bottles are used to package a wide array of beverages such as soy, dairy and juice. This is Sonoco’s first extrusion blow-molding manufacturing facility.
Roger Fuller, division vice president of consumer products- North America, said: “There is growing demand for extrusion blow molded plastic bottles, due in large part to the increasing popularity of protein smoothies and other fruit flavored and juice-based beverages as meal replacements and dietary supplements. Our plastic bottle technology is ideally suited for these products as it meets the demands of hot and cold fill as well as aseptic filling and offers advanced oxygen and light barriers that protect the nutritional content and flavor beverages.”
Sonoco’s plant will feature blow-molding technology such as high-speed equipment designed for quick changeover, with multiple tooling to accelerate production of stock and custom shaped bottles.
Sonoco has over 20 years experience in the materials science and manufacturing of injection and blow-molded plastics for industrial, foodservice and consumer applications.
